A Quigley Scholar is someone who is serious about their faith and is
A BAPTIZED ROMAN CATHOLIC WHO PRACTICES HIS FAITH
You’ll be asked to present a Certificate of Baptism from the parish in which you were baptized. Practicing your faith means that you and your family are registered at a parish in the Archdiocese of Chicago and attend Sunday Mass regularly.
SOMEONE INTERESTED IN EXPLORING THE PRIESTHOOD
Each month, Quigley Scholars come together at Saint Joseph College Seminary to pray and learn more about the beliefs and practices of our Catholic faith. You will also talk about what it means to be a priest. You’ll have a chance to meet seminarians and hear stories about the ways God is working in their own lives. You’ll also have a chance to ask them questions and to see why they decided to consider the priesthood.
SOMEONE WHO IS RECOMMENDED FOR THE PROGRAM
You’ll need to ask for a recommendation from your pastor, a teacher from grade school or high school, and a member of your family. Sometimes it’s the people around us who help us notice the good things we’re doing and recognize the gifts God has given us.
SOMEONE WHO IS SERIOUS ABOUT THEIR EDUCATION
Our scholars maintain a 3.0 GPA or better out of a 4.0 grading system. They value learning and apply themselves to the best of their ability. We’ll ask your school to submit your grades to Saint Joseph College Seminary twice a year: at the semester and at the end of each year.
SOMEONE WHO IS RESPONSIBLE AND RESPECTS OTHERS
Quigley Scholars aren’t just serious about their school work, they’re serious about who they are as a person. We accept candidates who do not have a history of behavioral problems during grade school and at high school.
SOMEONE INTERESTED IN RELIGION
An interest in theology is a very important sign that you’re ready to seriously begin studying the mysteries of our Catholic faith more deeply. Also important is an interest in learning other languages. Priests often know more than one language to serve their communities.
